From Athens International Airport to the Port of Piraeus (Gate E8)
If you are arriving in Greece by air, Athens International Airport (ATH) is well connected to the Port of Piraeus, from where ferries depart to Aegina from Gate E8. Visitors can choose among several comfortable and reliable transportation options:
By Metro, you can travel directly from the airport to the port area. Take Metro Line 3 (Blue Line) from the airport towards Dimotiko Theatro and disembark at Piraeus Station, the final stop. The journey takes approximately 65–70 minutes. From the station, Gate E8 is within walking distance (about 10–15 minutes) or a short taxi ride. A one-way metro ticket from the airport costs approximately €9 per person.
By Suburban Railway (Proastiakos), you may also travel from the airport to Piraeus Station, either directly or with a change at Ano Liosia. The total travel time is similar, around 60–75 minutes, and the ticket price is also approximately €9.
By Taxi, you can enjoy a more direct and comfortable transfer, especially if travelling with luggage. The journey from the airport to the Port of Piraeus takes about 45–60 minutes, depending on traffic. The fixed airport taxi fare to Piraeus is approximately €55 during daytime and €65 at night.
Private transfers and ride-hailing services are also available and can be pre-booked for added convenience.

From Gate E8 (Port of Piraeus) to the Port of Aegina
Ferries to Aegina depart daily from Gate E8, offering frequent connections throughout the day. Travellers can choose between conventional ferries and high-speed (hydrofoil) vessels, depending on their preferences.
Conventional ferries provide a relaxed and economical journey and are ideal for travellers bringing their own vehicle. The crossing takes approximately 1 to 1.5 hours, allowing you to enjoy the sea views as you ease into island life. Ticket prices for adult passengers usually range between €10 and €12, while vehicle transport costs approximately €24–€29, depending on the ferry company and season.
For those who value speed and are travelling without a car, high-speed ferries (hydrofoils) offer a faster alternative. The trip to Aegina takes around 40 minutes, making the island perfect even for short escapes. Ticket prices typically range from €18 to €20 per passenger. Please note that high-speed vessels do not carry vehicles.
